Peron is a suburb located in the southern part of Perth. Perth is the capital city of Western Australia. Peron is part of the City of Rockingham area.

About Peron

The area known as Peron officially became a suburb in 1974. It gets its name from Cape Peron, a nearby land feature. Even though it's officially Cape Peron, many people locally call it "Point Peron." This is why you might see roads and other places in the area named after "Point Peron." There's a small part of the Cape on its southwest side that is actually called "Point Peron."

Peron's Role in World War II

During World War II, Point Peron was an important location. It was home to the Peron Battery. This was a special coastal defence battery. A battery is a group of big guns used to protect the coast. The Peron Battery was part of the larger Fremantle Fortress. This fortress was a system of defences built to protect the important port city of Fremantle from enemy attacks by sea.
