Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Perrakee were an Indigenous Australian group. They are believed to have lived in parts of the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Sadly, this group is no longer present today. Not much is known about them, making their story a bit of a mystery.

Who Were the Perrakee?

The name Perrakee is only mentioned once in old writings about different cultures. This was by a researcher named R. H. Mathews in 1900. He listed the Perrakee alongside other "large and important tribes." These groups lived in the area where the Northern Territory and Western Australia meet.

Another important researcher, Norman Tindale, made a big list of Australian Aboriginal tribes. However, even he could not find much information about the Perrakee. He couldn't figure out exactly where they lived or identify them clearly. This means the Perrakee remain a group about whom we have very limited historical details.
