Perry the Platypus is a popular cartoon character. He is a platypus who walks on two feet. You can see him in the animated shows Phineas and Ferb and Milo Murphy's Law.
Perry was created by Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh. He first appeared in the pilot episode "Rollercoaster" in 2007. In Phineas and Ferb, Perry is a main character in the side stories. He often faces his enemy, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz.
Perry is mostly silent. His only sound is a special rattling noise made by his beak. This sound is done by voice actor Dee Bradley Baker.
The Flynn-Fletcher family owns Perry as a pet. They think he is just a normal, quiet animal. But secretly, Perry lives a double life! He is a spy for an animal spy group called O.W.C.A. (Organization Without a Cool Acronym).
Perry has many secret tunnels to his underground hideout. These entrances are hidden all around his house. For example, there's one in the tree in the backyard. Perry also has secret entrances in places like Hawaii and London.
Every day, Perry battles Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Doofenshmirtz is an evil scientist who wants to take over the Tri-state area. His inventions usually work perfectly, but his plans always fail because of Perry.
The creators chose a platypus for Perry because they are unique animals. Not many people know much about platypuses. This allowed the writers to invent fun facts about the species. Fans and critics really like Perry. You can find many toys, t-shirts, and books featuring him. He even appeared in a 2009 video game for the Nintendo DS.

Perry's Role in Phineas and Ferb
Perry is the calm pet platypus of the Flynn-Fletcher family. They adopted him because his eyes seemed to look at both Phineas and Ferb at the same time. This was shown in the 2011 movie, Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension.
Unknown to his family, Perry is a secret agent. He works for the "Organization Without a Cool Acronym," also known as The OWCA. His spy name is "Agent P." He gets his orders from Major Monogram through a video call. He uses his high-tech underground hideout for this.
Every day, Perry fights the evil scientist Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. Doofenshmirtz tries to use his inventions to control the tri-state area. Perry always stops Doofenshmirtz's plans. When he does, he accidentally destroys whatever his owners, Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher, are building.
Phineas and Ferb know their inventions disappear, but they don't know Perry causes it. Their sister, Candace, also doesn't know Perry is a spy. She gets very frustrated trying to figure out what happens. Perry knows about Phineas and Ferb's inventions. He usually only cares if they can help him stop Doofenshmirtz.
Perry's Relationship with Doofenshmirtz
At first, Perry and Doofenshmirtz seemed to dislike each other. They have been enemies since they met. However, they are often friendly and polite to each other. Doofenshmirtz even called Perry his best friend in one episode. Perry often saves Doofenshmirtz when his plans go wrong.
Doofenshmirtz once tried to get closer to Perry when Perry was assigned to a new villain. Their daily fights usually involve Doofenshmirtz making a plan. Perry then tries to stop it after getting his mission from Major Monogram. Doofenshmirtz often traps Perry and explains his evil scheme.
Perry then escapes, and they fight. Perry always wins, and Doofenshmirtz yells, "Curse you, Perry the Platypus!" They both rely on this daily routine. In one episode, Doofenshmirtz replaced Perry with Peter the Panda. Both Perry and Doofenshmirtz became sad without each other to fight.
Sometimes, they decide not to fight and just have fun. This happened in "Happy New Year!" and "Candace Disconnected." Perry also helps Doofenshmirtz with non-evil plans. For example, he helped Doofenshmirtz throw a birthday party for his daughter Vanessa.
Perry also uses Doofenshmirtz's inventions to hide Phineas and Ferb's contraptions. This means Candace can't "bust" them. For instance, Perry used Doofenshmirtz's robot Norm to get city surveillance footage. He also used Doofenshmirtz's Pick-Him-Up-inator to rescue Candace.
In Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension, an evil version of Perry appears. This version is called Platyborg. Perry's secret was revealed to Phineas, Ferb, and their friends in that movie. Their memories were erased so Perry could stay their pet.
Perry's Role in Milo Murphy's Law
Perry first appears in the episode "The Phineas and Ferb Effect." He then becomes a regular character in the second season. His job is to watch over Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Doofenshmirtz tries (and fails) to do good things in Danville.
Doofenshmirtz first thinks Perry is just being his friend. He pushes Perry away when he finds out Perry is watching him. They later become friends again. Perry tells Doofenshmirtz that he plans to donate his earnings to Doofenshmirtz's good causes.
Perry's Character and Design
How Perry Was Created

When creating Phineas and Ferb, the co-creators wanted to include action scenes. They chose Perry to be the character who would have these adventures. They gave him a constant enemy, Doofenshmirtz. This helped viewers get to know Perry better.
They wanted Perry to be an unusual animal. They picked a platypus because it's unique. Platypuses were rarely seen in cartoons. This meant the creators could make up facts about them.
Perry has his own theme song, called "Perry." It was written by the show's creators. The song describes Perry as a "semi-aquatic egg-laying mammal of action."
Perry's Design
Perry's design is simple, making it easy for kids to draw him. He is made of geometric shapes. This style is similar to old cartoons by Tex Avery.
When Perry is a pet, he looks like a square loaf of bread. His eyes are unfocused and look in different directions. When he is Agent P, he stands upright. He wears a fedora hat. His eyes are focused and show a strong, determined look. His arms and legs are ready for action.
Perry's Personality
As a pet, Perry is seen as a "mindless domestic pet" who "doesn't do much." This idea led to a toyline called "Perry the Inaction Figure." The toy's slogan was that it didn't do anything, letting the owner imagine its actions.
In reality, Perry is a very skilled fighter. He can do many amazing judo moves and escapes. He uses high-tech gadgets from The O.W.C.A. These include a hovercraft called the "Platypusmobile." He also has a jet ski and a whistle that calls different animals. His favorite color is perry-winkle.
Even though his pet identity is a cover, Perry truly cares for the Flynn-Fletcher family. In one episode, he saved Candace from a collapsing cave. He did this even though she saw him as a secret agent. She thought she was just imagining it.
When Doofenshmirtz's invention threatened Phineas and Ferb, Perry quickly stopped Doofenshmirtz. He handcuffed him and called for O.W.C.A. special forces. This showed how much he cares.
In "Oh, There You Are, Perry," Perry was assigned a new enemy. He had to leave the Flynn-Fletchers. This made him sad. Phineas and Ferb missed him greatly. They even held a concert to sing about how much they loved him. Perry was later reassigned to Doofenshmirtz and returned home.
Perry is like a human in some ways, but he doesn't speak. He only makes a "purring" noise by flapping his beak. This sound is made by Dee Bradley Baker. When he is Agent P, he is almost completely silent. He communicates using body language, facial expressions, and hand gestures.
Perry in Other Media
Perry has appeared in many Phineas and Ferb products. He is in all the Phineas and Ferb books. You can also find him as a 20-inch plush toy. This plush toy makes Perry's chattering noise when you press its hand.
Many t-shirts feature Perry and the phrase "Hey, where's Perry?" This is what characters often say when Perry leaves for his secret missions. Perry is also in the Nintendo DS video game Phineas and Ferb. In the game, he stops Doofenshmirtz's plans in a mini-game.
Since 2014, Perry has been a playable character in the video game Disney Infinity. He also appeared in an episode of Where's My Water?: Swampy's Underground Adventures.
Perry also appears in Milo Murphy's Law. He is in a special crossover episode in Season 2. He then becomes a regular character throughout that season.
