Perrysburg is a small, unincorporated community located in Union Township, within Miami County, in the state of Indiana, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a settlement without its own local government.
History of Perrysburg
Perrysburg was officially planned and mapped out, a process called "platting," in 1837. This was done by two people named John R. Wilkinson and Matthew Fenimore.
Just two years later, in 1839, Perrysburg was starting to grow. It had about six homes, a place for travelers to stay called a tavern, a store for shopping, a blacksmith shop where metal items were made, and a church.
However, the town's growth slowed down when the Lake Erie and Western Railroad was built. The railroad tracks were not extended to Perrysburg. Because the town wasn't on the main railway route, it became less important and its development declined.
A post office was opened in Perrysburg in 1838. This allowed people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years until it closed down in 1907.
