The Perryville station is a train stop in Perryville, Maryland. It is part of the busy Northeast Corridor railway line. This station is the last stop on the northern end of the MARC Penn Line.
The station has one platform where people get on and off trains. It's next to one of the four tracks that make up the Northeast Corridor. Inside the station building, you'll find the Perryville Railroad Museum. It has cool model trains and shows how railroads helped Perryville grow.
In 2023, a plan was made to extend the MARC train service from Perryville all the way to Newark, Delaware. This would let people connect to another train system called SEPTA Regional Rail.
Station History
The Perryville station was first built in 1905. It was constructed by the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad. Later, the Pennsylvania Railroad took it over. The station is located near a special track shape called a "wye." This wye was used for a different train line called the Port Deposit Branch.
When Amtrak started running passenger trains in 1971, the Perryville station was closed for a while. However, it became a stop again for a train called the Chesapeake, which ran from 1978 to 1983.
MARC Penn Line service was extended to Perryville on May 1, 1991. This meant more trains stopped here. The station was also fixed up that year, costing about $1 million.
By September 2001, one southbound Amtrak Northeast Regional train also stopped at Perryville. This was mainly for MARC passengers and wasn't listed on Amtrak's public schedules. Amtrak service at Perryville was stopped in March 2020. This happened when Amtrak reduced its services because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
