Peter John Goegan (born March 6, 1934 – died October 8, 2008) was a professional ice hockey player. He was a defenceman, which means he helped protect his team's goal. Goegan played 383 games in the NHL, scoring 20 goals and helping with 70 assists. He was born in Fort William, Ontario, Canada.

Early Hockey Days

Pete Goegan began his hockey journey playing for local teams in Fort William, Ontario. He then spent two seasons in the Northern Ontario Hockey Association. In 1956, he decided to become a professional hockey player.

Playing in the NHL

Starting with the Red Wings

Goegan started his professional career in the American Hockey League (AHL). He played for the Cleveland Barons for two years. During this time, he helped his team win the Calder Cup. This is a championship trophy for the AHL.

In the 1957-58 season, Goegan made his big debut. He joined the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings. For the next few seasons, he became a key defenceman for the Red Wings. He even had a short loan to the Western Hockey League in 1959-60.

Time with the Rangers

In 1962, Goegan played for the New York Rangers for a few months. He also played for their farm team, the Springfield Indians. With the Indians, he won another Calder Cup. This was his second Calder Cup victory.

Later that year, in October, he returned to the Detroit Red Wings. He spent the next five seasons splitting his time. He played for both the Red Wings and their AHL team, the Pittsburgh Hornets. With the Hornets, he won his third Calder Cup. This was a great achievement in his career.

Joining the North Stars

In the summer of 1967, the NHL had an Expansion Draft. This meant new teams were joining the league. Pete Goegan was chosen by one of these new teams, the Minnesota North Stars.

He played one season with the North Stars, appearing in 46 games. He also had a short loan to the Western Hockey League during this time. Goegan retired from professional hockey in 1969. He had played in other North American leagues before ending his career.
