Peter Haggett (born January 24, 1933 – died February 9, 2025) was a famous British geographer. He was a professor at the University of Bristol. He studied how cities and regions are organized.

Peter Haggett's Life and Work
Peter Haggett was born in a small village called Pawlett in Somerset, England. This was on January 24, 1933. He went to Dr Morgan's Grammar School in Bridgwater. As a child, he loved walking and cycling around his local area. This helped him develop a strong interest in geography.
His Education
In 1951, Peter Haggett started studying geography at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge. He was a very bright student. In 1954, he graduated with top honors. This is called a "Double First."
His Career as a Geographer
Peter Haggett worked as a geographer for 50 years. He wrote or edited over 30 books. These books were about how geography is studied and practiced. He also wrote about different geography topics.
He taught at many universities around the world. But he is best known for his work at the University of Bristol. He was a lecturer and professor there starting in 1966.
Awards and Recognition
Peter Haggett received many important awards. In 1991, he won the French Lauréat Prix International de Géographie Vautrin Lud. This is a major award in geography. In 1993, he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). This was for his great work in urban and regional geography.
Studying Diseases
Peter Haggett was offered many important jobs. But he chose to focus on a special area of geography. He studied epidemiology. This is the study of how diseases spread. He looked at where infectious diseases appear and how they move. He spent the last half of his career on this important work.
Peter Haggett passed away on February 9, 2025. He was 92 years old.
