He is known for his work as a political scientist, which means he studies how governments work and how countries interact. He taught at universities in both England and Canada.

Oliver Peter St John started his teaching career as a lecturer at University College London in England. Later, he moved to Canada and became a professor of political studies at the University of Manitoba.

His Family Life
In 1963, Oliver Peter St John married Mary Juliet Scott-Brown. They had four children together: one son and three daughters. Their son, Oliver Robert St John, Viscount Kirkwall, is the next in line to become the Earl of Orkney.
His first marriage ended in 1985. Later that year, he married Mary Barbara Huck. Through this marriage, he gained four step-children.
