Peterson is a small, quiet place in Adams County, Indiana, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Kirkland Township.
History of Peterson
Peterson got its name from a person named Smith Peterson. He was very important because he helped bring the railroad to this settlement. Back then, railroads were like the highways of today. They helped people travel and move goods easily.
A post office was opened in Peterson in 1880. A post office is where people send and receive mail. It was a very important place for communication in the community. The post office stayed open for many years, but it eventually closed down in 1940.
