Peterson is a small, unincorporated community located in the beautiful Morgan County, Utah, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own official local government like a city or town.

Where is Peterson?
Peterson is found in the northwest part of Morgan Valley. It's close to Peterson Creek and Interstate 84. This community is about 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Morgan, a larger town.
Near Peterson, you can find Thurston Peak. This is the tallest mountain in Morgan County. It stands at an impressive 9,706 feet (2,958 meters) high.
A Look Back: Peterson's History
Peterson was first settled in 1855. When it was first created, it had a different name. It was called Weber City. This name came from the nearby Weber River.
Early Buildings and Changes
The very first public building in Peterson opened in 1861. This building was special because it served two purposes. It was both a school for children and a church for the LDS Church.
In 1862, Peterson became the county seat. The county seat is like the main town for a county. It's where the government offices are located. Peterson was the county seat for four years.
After that, the county seat moved to Littleton in 1866. Then, in 1868, it moved again to Morgan.
New Name, New Businesses
The Peterson General Store opened in 1869. This store was very important for the community. It also had a U.S. post office inside. Other businesses in Peterson included the Dexter Hotel, a train station, and a stockyard for animals.
In 1872, the town's name was officially changed to Peterson. This was done to honor an important early settler. His name was Charles Sreeve Peterson. He was a leader in Mormon faith. Charles Sreeve Peterson was also the very first person to settle in Morgan County.
