Petrissa Solja (born March 11, 1994) is a German table tennis player. She is now retired from the sport. Petrissa won a silver medal in the team event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She reached her highest world ranking of thirteenth in March 2016.

About Petrissa Solja
Petrissa Solja was born in Kandel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. She grew up in a family where everyone played table tennis. Her mother, Dagmar Solja-Andruszko, was also a table tennis player.
Petrissa has two older sisters who also play table tennis. Her sister Amelie even competed for Austria in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Petrissa's Table Tennis Journey
Petrissa Solja's father, Pavel, coached her in table tennis. She plays left-handed and uses a special way of holding the paddle called a shakehand grip.
Early Success as a Junior Player
As a young player, Petrissa had a lot of success. She won the Cadet singles events at the European Youth Championships in both 2008 and 2009. She beat Bernadette Szőcs and Yana Noskova in those finals.
Even though she lost twice in the Junior singles finals to Bernadette Szőcs in 2011 and 2012, she was still a top European player. At the World Junior Championships in 2012, she reached the semi-finals in girls' singles. Overall, she won three bronze medals at that event.
Petrissa was named the German young player of the year in 2012.
Winning German National Titles
Petrissa also teamed up with Sabine Winter. Together, they won the German national doubles championship in 2013 and 2014.
Olympic Silver Medal
At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Petrissa Solja won a silver medal. She was part of the women's team competition. Her team, including partner Han Ying, played against the Chinese team. They were beaten 0 to 3 in the final match.
This silver medal was a big achievement. It was the best result for a European team in the women's team table tennis at the Olympics. It was even better than expected, as her team was ranked third. In the women's singles event, Petrissa lost in the third round to Ri Myong-sun from North Korea.
World Championships and Other Wins
In 2017, Petrissa Solja won a bronze medal in mixed doubles. She teamed up with Fang Bo at the 2017 World Table Tennis Championships in Düsseldorf, Germany. This was the first World Championship medal in mixed doubles for Germany since 1971.
Later in 2017, Petrissa played in the first-ever Ultimate Table Tennis League in India.
Club Career and Comeback
Petrissa played for the German club TTC Berlin Eastside starting in 2014. She took a break from table tennis at the end of 2017. Then, in 2018, she signed with TSV Langstadt.
In 2019, Petrissa made an amazing comeback. She won a gold medal at the ITTF-Europe Top 16 event. She was 3 games down but managed to win against Bernadette Szőcs. She also won this event again in 2020.
