Petro was once a small community or "settlement" located in Kern County, California. It is no longer an active place today. This former settlement was situated near the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, which was an important railway line.

Where Was Petro?

Petro was found about 7.25 miles (which is about 11.67 kilometers) north of a town called Wasco. It was located in Kern County, a large county in the central part of California. The area where Petro once stood is about 292 feet (or 89 meters) above sea level. This means it was not very high up, compared to mountains.

A Place That Vanished

Petro was a recognized place for many years. It even appeared on official maps. However, by the year 1947, Petro was still shown on maps, but after that, it seems to have disappeared. This means the settlement likely became completely empty or was absorbed into another area. Many small settlements like Petro were created because of railways or specific industries, and when those changed, the settlements often faded away.
