Petroleum is a small community located in Wells County, Indiana, in the United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it's not an official town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of Nottingham Township.
History of Petroleum
Petroleum was officially planned and marked out in the year 1894. It received its unique name because it was established in an area rich with oil. This means that when the community was being set up, oil fields were a significant feature of the land around it. A post office has been serving the people of Petroleum since 1894, helping them send and receive mail for over a hundred years.
