Petróleos del Norte S.A. (Petronor) is a Spanish company that works with oil and gas. It is located in Muskiz, a town in the Basque Country, Spain. The company started on November 30, 1968.
Petronor is mostly owned by a larger company called Repsol, which has 85.98% of its shares. The remaining 14.02% is owned by Kutxabank, a Spanish bank.
How Petronor Started
Petronor was created on November 30, 1968. Important business people from the Basque Country, like Javier Ybarra and Fernando Ybarra, helped start it. The main goal was to build an oil refinery in northern Spain. An oil refinery is a factory that turns crude oil into useful products like gasoline.
In the early 1970s, other big companies also became owners of Petronor. These included Gulf Oil and Campsa. Several banks in the Biscay region also invested in the company.
Supporting Sports
Petronor has also been involved in sports sponsorship. From 2008 to 2015, Petronor was the main sponsor for the Spanish football team Athletic Club. Their logo was featured on the team's jerseys.
