Parent Repsol S.A.

Petróleos del Norte S.A. (Petronor) is a Spanish oil and gas company. It is based in Muskiz, a town in the Basque Country, Spain. The company started on November 30, 1968.

Petronor is mostly owned by Repsol, a larger energy company, which has about 86% of its shares. The rest is owned by Kutxabank, a Spanish bank.

How Petronor Started

Petronor was created on November 30, 1968. It was founded by important people from the Basque Country, like Javier Ybarra and Fernando Ybarra. Their main goal was to build an oil refinery in northern Spain.

An oil refinery is a factory that turns crude oil into useful products. These products include gasoline, diesel, and other fuels. The company received permission to build this refinery from the Spanish government at the time.

In the early 1970s, other companies joined Petronor as owners. These included Gulf Oil and Campsa. Several banks from the Biscay region also became shareholders.

Supporting Sports Teams

Petronor has also been involved in sports. From 2008 to 2015, Petronor was the main sponsor for the football team Athletic Club. Their logo was featured on the team's jerseys.
