Petru Pascari (born September 22, 1929) is a politician from the former Soviet Union and Moldova. He served as the head of government, like a prime minister, for the Moldavian SSR two times. His first term was from April 1970 to August 1976. He returned for a second term from January 1990 to May 1990.
About Petru Pascari
Petru Pascari was born in a small village called Stroenți. This village is located in the northern part of Transnistria, in the Rîbnița District.
Early Life and Career
From 1946 to 1949, Petru Pascari worked at a school that taught about making wine. This school was in the village of Saharna. After that, he went to the Chisinau Agricultural Institute. Today, this school is known as the State Agrarian University of Moldova.
For ten years, he worked as an agronomist. An agronomist is someone who studies soil and crops to help farmers grow better food. After this, he became a minister in the government.
Political Roles
In December 1962, Petru Pascari became a Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Moldova. This was an important leadership role in the main political party.
He first became the head of government in April 1970. At the same time, he also served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Moldavian SSR. This meant he handled relationships with other countries.
In July 1976, he was given a new job. He became the First Deputy Chairman of Gosplan. Gosplan was a very important committee in the Soviet Union that planned the country's economy.
In early 1990, he came back to Moldova. He served as the head of government for a second time. In June 1990, he retired and has lived in Moscow ever since.
