The Peugeot 206, a popular small car

The Peugeot 206 is a car that was made by the French company Peugeot. It was first built in 1998. In Europe, they stopped making it in 2013, but it was still made in some other countries for a while longer.

This car came in different styles. You could get it as a 3-door or 5-door hatchback (a car with a back door that swings up, like a small SUV). In 2000, a cool hard-top convertible version was added, which means its roof could fold down. Then, in 2002, an estate version came out, which is like a car with a longer back for more storage.

In 2006, Peugeot released a newer car called the 207. However, the 206 continued to be sold as a cheaper option. Later, in 2009, an updated version called the 206+ was released. This version had a new look, but it wasn't sold in the UK.

What Engines Powered the Peugeot 206?

The Peugeot 206 had many different engines. These engines gave the car its power. They included various sizes of petrol (gasoline) and diesel engines.

  • Petrol Engines: These engines ranged from smaller 1.1-liter and 1.4-liter engines, good for city driving, to more powerful 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter engines. The 2.0-liter engines were found in sportier models like the GTi and RC, which were designed for faster driving.
  • Diesel Engines: The diesel engines were known as HDi or D models. They were usually more fuel-efficient. These included 1.4-liter, 1.6-liter, 1.9-liter, and 2.0-liter options.

Different Styles of the Peugeot 206

The Peugeot 206 was made in several body styles. This meant people could choose the car that best fit their needs.

Hatchback Models

The most common versions were the 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks. These cars are popular because they are compact and easy to park. They also have a useful back door that opens upwards, making it easy to load things into the trunk.

Convertible: The 206 CC

In 2000, Peugeot introduced the 206 CC. The "CC" stands for "Coupe Cabriolet." This was a special version with a hard roof that could fold down into the trunk. This allowed drivers to enjoy open-air driving like a convertible, but also have the security of a hard roof when it was up.

Estate: The 206 SW

The 206 SW (Station Wagon) was launched in 2002. This model had a longer back section than the hatchback. This extra space made it great for families or anyone who needed more room for luggage or sports gear.

Sedan Models

In some parts of the world, like South America, a sedan version of the Peugeot 206 was also sold. A sedan has a separate trunk that does not open with the rear window. This version was sometimes called the Peugeot 207 Compact.

The Peugeot 206 in Rally Racing

The Peugeot 206 was also famous in the world of rallying. This is a type of car racing where cars compete on different surfaces like dirt, gravel, snow, or asphalt.

Peugeot created a special version called the Peugeot 206 WRC (World Rally Car). This car was built specifically for the World Rally Championship. It was very successful in this competition.

  • Winning Races: The 206 WRC helped Peugeot win the World Rally Championship for manufacturers three times in a row, from 2000 to 2002.
  • Famous Drivers: Drivers like Marcus Grönholm won driver's championships with the 206 WRC. This showed how powerful and reliable the car was in tough racing conditions.

The success of the 206 WRC helped make the regular Peugeot 206 even more popular around the world.
