Pevensey Road is a special place in Hanworth, which is part of the London Borough of Hounslow. It's a large natural area, about 10.2 hectares in size. To give you an idea, one hectare is roughly the size of an international rugby field! This makes Pevensey Road a really important Local Nature Reserve.

It's also part of a bigger natural area called the Crane Corridor. This whole area is considered a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation. This means it's super important for nature in London! The Hounslow Council looks after and manages this amazing place.

Exploring Pevensey Road Nature Reserve

This nature reserve wraps around the South West Middlesex Crematorium. You can find ways to enter the main part of the reserve from Pevensey Road and Hounslow Road. There's also another entrance on Hounslow Road, a bit north of the crematorium. This path leads to a part of the reserve that's separated by thick bushes. It also connects to a walking path along the River Crane.

What You Can See Here

Pevensey Road Nature Reserve has many different types of natural areas. You can explore:

  • Meadows: These are open grassy areas, often filled with wildflowers.
  • Woodlands: These are areas with lots of trees, providing homes for many animals.
  • Wetlands: These are areas where the land is often wet, like marshes or swamps, which are great for water-loving plants and animals.

Helping Nature Thrive

Since 2013, a group called The Conservation Volunteers has been working hard to help manage Pevensey Road Nature Reserve. They want to make sure it's a great home for all sorts of wildlife.

Green Gym Sessions

The Conservation Volunteers run weekly "Green Gym" sessions. These are special events where local people can come and help look after the nature reserve. It's a fun way to get some exercise outdoors while also doing something good for nature! They might help with planting, clearing paths, or looking after the plants and animals.
