The Pfarr Log House is an old log cabin found near Milford, in a country area called Clermont County, Ohio. It was built a long time ago, in the early 1800s. This cabin is important because it shows us what homes looked like when people first settled in this part of Ohio. Today, it is recognized as a special historic site.

The Pfarr Log House: A Historic Home

The Pfarr Log House is famous because of the Pfarr family. George Pfarr bought the cabin and 21 acres of land in 1840. His family owned it for many years, until 1976.

George Pfarr was a butcher and a farmer. He moved to America from Bavaria with his wife and three children. The family used the land for farming until the 1960s. George's children and grandchildren continued to farm the property.

What Does It Look Like?

The Pfarr Log House is mainly made of logs. It sits on a strong stone foundation. The roof is made of metal and has a gentle slope.

The house is one and a half stories tall. Its walls are built from logs that were cut into square shapes. This is different from using round, unshaped logs. The way the logs fit together is called "steeple notching." This special building method was often used in homes built before 1825.

A Look Back in Time

We don't know much about the cabin's very early days. For example, we don't know the exact year it was built, but we know it was around 1825. We also don't know who built it.

In the early 1900s, a newer farmhouse was built next to the cabin. In 1910, the Pfarr family wanted to make their new house bigger. So, they moved the old log cabin to a different spot to make room.

Becoming a Historic Site

Even though the Pfarr Log House was moved in 1910, it was still considered very important. In September 1977, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of places in the United States that are important to history. The cabin earned its spot because of its unique and historic building style.
