A Look Back: Pheba's History
Pheba got its name from a person named Mrs. Pheba Robinson. The community grew up along the old Southern Railway tracks. It officially became a town in 1890. That same year, its post office first opened for business.
In 2000, Pheba was the location of a very important sports event. It was the first time an all-black team played in a game approved by the Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA). This game was between Hebron Christian and the all-black Christ Missionary and Industrial College High School (CM&I). CM&I had not played football for many years and only had 14 players on their team. This game was a big step forward in sports history for the area.
Pheba was first officially counted as a census-designated place in the 2020 Census. At that time, its population was 160 people.
