Philippe Latulippe, also known as Phil Latulippe (born March 16, 1919, in Cabano, Quebec – died September 24, 2006), was a brave Canadian soldier, an amazing athlete, and a kind philanthropist. A philanthropist is someone who helps others, often by giving money or time to good causes.
Phil served in the Canadian Armed Forces as a professional soldier from 1940 to 1974. During the Second World War, he was injured in his legs. After his military career, he became famous for his incredible running achievements. He started training in track and field when he was 48 years old! He broke many records in marathon running and encouraged everyone to be active.

From Soldier to Super Runner
Between the ages of 49 and 76, Phil Latulippe ran an astonishing 210,782 kilometers. That's like running around the world more than five times! He didn't run for fame or money, but always to help others. The Order of Canada, a very special award, recognized him for always helping people with disabilities, young people, and the elderly.
Helping Others Through Movement
In 1981, Phil created the Phil-et-Lucie-Latulippe Foundation. This foundation was set up to encourage people, especially children and those with disabilities, to walk and be active in Canada and other countries. He was also involved in many other projects that helped people around the world. His dedication and hard work earned him many important awards.
A Lasting Legacy
A book about his life, called L'homme qui est allé au bout des routes (which means "The man who went to the end of the roads"), was published in 1995. Even after he had a stroke in 2002, he continued to walk 6 kilometers every day! Phil Latulippe passed away in 2006. Today, a sports center in Loretteville (Québec), where he lived for many years, is named in his honor: the Complexe sportif Phil-Latulippe. It's a great way to remember his amazing spirit and dedication to fitness and helping others.
