Philadelphia Mobile Food Association facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Philadelphia Mobile Food Association (PMFA) is a group that helps food truck owners in Philadelphia. It's like a club or team for people who sell food from trucks and carts. Their main goal is to support these businesses and make sure they have a voice.

History of PMFA

The Philadelphia Mobile Food Association was started by two friends, Dan Pennachietti and Andrew Gerson. They wanted to help food truck owners in Philadelphia with many things. This included organizing events, giving legal advice, and helping them advertise their businesses.

Why PMFA Was Started

The founders wanted to create a strong team of food truck owners. This way, they could work together and have a louder voice. They wanted to talk with the city's departments that make rules for businesses. These rules cover things like getting licenses and making sure food is safe to eat.

When PMFA Began

The association officially started in early 2012. They even got some financial help from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Just eight months after starting, the PMFA already had 73 members! This showed how much food truck owners wanted to work together.

Joining the PMFA

If you own a food truck or want to start one, you can join the PMFA. There is a membership fee to help the association run. This fee can be anywhere from $150 to $500. To become a member, you must either own a food truck, be planning to own one, or work in a business that helps food truck operators.
