Philip Caveney facts for kids

Philip Caveney is a British author who writes exciting books for young readers. He was born in Prestatyn, North Wales, in 1951. For many years, he lived in Stockport and helped run a group called the Manchester Writers' Workshop. This workshop was a place where writers could meet and share their stories. Later, he moved to Edinburgh. Philip Caveney is famous for his adventure stories, especially the Sebastian Darke, Alec Devlin, and "Movie Maniacs" book series. Before writing for children, he also wrote thrilling novels for adults.

The Sebastian Darke Adventures

The Sebastian Darke books are a fantasy series full of adventure. They tell the stories of Sebastian Darke, who is a jester who isn't very good at his job. He travels with his friends, Max and Captain Cornelius Drummel. Max is a "buffalope," which is a huge, shaggy animal that can talk and loves to complain! Captain Cornelius Drummel is a tiny but strong warrior. He knows a dangerous fighting move called the Golmiran Death Leap.

The first book in this series was Sebastian Darke: Prince of Fools. It was published in 2007 by Random House Children's Books. The second book, Sebastian Darke: Prince of Pirates, came out in 2008. A third book, Sebastian Darke: Prince of Explorers, was published in 2009. In 2010, a special spin-off book called A Buffalope's Tale was released. It tells Max the buffalope's life story. The final part of Sebastian's story, Sebastian Darke: Prince of Spies, was published in 2012.

The Alec Devlin Mysteries

The Alec Devlin series takes readers on thrilling adventures. The first book, Alec Devlin: The Eye of the Serpent, was published in August 2008. It follows Alec Devlin, a young archaeologist in 1920s Egypt. An archaeologist is someone who studies old things to learn about the past. This book is a classic adventure story for readers aged 9 and up.

The next book in the series was Alec Devlin: Empire of the Skull, published in 2009. The third and final adventure, Maze of Death, was released in 2010.

The Movie Maniacs Series

The "Movie Maniacs" books are about a boy named Kip McCall. His father owns a movie theater called The Paramount Picture Palace. In Night on Terror Island, published in 2011, a mysterious new projectionist named Mr. Lazarus starts working at the cinema. He brings a special invention called The Lazarus Enigma. This device can put people right into movies! Once you're inside the movie, everything feels real.

The second book in this exciting series, Spy Another Day, was published in 2012. A third book, Space Blasters, was released in May 2013.
