Early Life and Education

Philip Neville was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 5, 1909. He loved learning and went to the University of Minnesota. In 1931, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. This is a common degree you get after studying different subjects in college.

He continued his studies at the University of Minnesota Law School. In 1933, he earned a Bachelor of Laws degree. This degree prepared him to become a lawyer.

His Legal Career

After finishing law school, Philip Neville started his career in law. From 1933 to 1935, he worked as a law clerk for the Supreme Court of Minnesota. A law clerk helps judges with their research and writing.

After that, he worked as a private lawyer until 1967. This means he helped people and businesses with their legal problems. He also taught law at the University of Minnesota Law School from 1937 to 1967.

He served as a municipal judge for the village of Edina, Minnesota, from 1948 to 1952. A municipal judge handles local legal issues. From 1952 to 1953, he was the United States Attorney for the District of Minnesota. A U.S. Attorney represents the United States government in court.

Becoming a Federal Judge

In 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson chose Philip Neville to become a federal judge. This was a very important job. He was nominated on May 24, 1967.

The United States Senate had to approve his nomination. They confirmed him on July 31, 1967. On the same day, he officially became a judge. Philip Neville served as a United States District Judge until he passed away on February 13, 1974.
