About Philipp Tischendorf

Philipp Tischendorf was born in Berlin, Germany. His family has a strong background in sports. His mother was a gymnast. His father played volleyball in a top league. His brother Robert played football. His sister Nadine and brother Max also enjoyed figure skating.

In 1994, Philipp started attending the Werner-Seelenbinder-School in Berlin. This was a special school for young athletes.

Philipp's Skating Journey

Philipp started figure skating when he was just three and a half years old. His older sister, Nadine, who was 11 years older, introduced him to the sport. Early in his career, Jürgen Bertko was his coach.

Junior Skating Competitions

Philipp began competing in the ISU Junior Grand Prix series in 2004. This series is for younger skaters who are still developing their skills. He competed in several events, including those in Canada, China, and Germany. In 2005, he won a bronze medal at the Junior Grand Prix event in Slovakia.

Senior Skating Achievements

The 2006–07 season was very successful for Philipp. He earned a silver medal at the German Championships. This achievement allowed him to represent Germany at the 2007 European Figure Skating Championships in Warsaw. He performed well in the short program, finishing 16th. He then placed 14th in the free skate, ending up 15th overall.

Later that season, he competed at the 2007 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Oberstdorf. He finished 20th in the short program and 11th in the free skate. Overall, he placed 13th in this important junior competition. During this time, Olympic silver medalist Romy Österreich coached him in Berlin.

Challenges and Later Career

In March 2007, Philipp faced a challenge when he got injured. He was practicing a difficult quadruple Lutz jump. This injury meant he could not compete during the 2007–08 season.

In February 2009, he moved from Berlin to Oberstdorf. There, he began training with a new coach, Michael Huth. Philipp also served in the Bundeswehr, which is the German armed forces, as a sportsperson. He retired from competitive skating in 2011.
