Early Tennis Days
Phillip had a very promising start in junior tennis. He was once ranked as the number one junior doubles player in the world. This was on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings.
In 2002, Phillip was part of the United States team. They finished second in the Junior Davis Cup. This is a big team competition for young players. In the same year, he won the doubles title at the Orange Bowl. He played with his partner, Scott Oudsema.
Phillip and Scott continued their success. They won the boys' doubles title at the 2003 Australian Open. This was a special win. They were the first American male team to win this competition. They beat a team from Romania in the final. In 2003, Phillip also reached the semi-finals in boys' doubles. This was at the French Open and Wimbledon. He partnered with Brian Baker for these events.
Playing as a Pro
