Phormis facts for kids
Phormis (Greek: Φόρμις) was an important writer from ancient Greece who lived around 478 BC. He is known as one of the very first people to create Greek comedy. The famous thinker Aristotle even said that Phormis, along with another writer named Epicharmus of Kos, helped start comedy. Phormis was also known for making changes to how plays looked. He was said to be the first to have actors wear long robes that reached their ankles. He also decorated the stage with special purple-dyed animal skins, likely as fancy curtains or backdrops.
Phormis's Plays
The Suda, an ancient encyclopedia, lists several comedies written by Phormis. These plays often told stories about myths or everyday life, but in a funny way.
