Building the Airport
The construction of Phu Quoc International Airport began in November 2008. It took about four years to build this large airport. The work was completed in November 2012.
The airport officially opened its doors on December 2, 2012. It replaced an older, smaller airport on the island. This new airport was built to handle many more passengers.
Runway Details
The airport has a very long runway. It measures 3,000 meters (about 9,843 feet) in length. This is long enough for large airplanes to take off and land safely. The runway is also 45 meters (about 148 feet) wide. It is made of Asphalt, a strong material used for roads and runways.

Phu Quoc International Airport is designed to handle many travelers. When it first opened, it could serve 2.6 million passengers each year. This number was planned to grow over time.
The airport was upgraded to handle 4 million passengers by 2020. There are also plans for it to manage up to 7 million passengers by 2030. This shows how important the airport is for the island's growth.
