Phulra facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Phulra was once a small, special area in what is now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province in Pakistan. It was known as a princely state or sometimes a smaller noble estate.

What Was a Princely State?

A princely state was a region in British India that was ruled by its own local leader, often called a prince or a Nawab. These states were not directly governed by the British, but they had agreements with the British Empire. They had some independence but were still under the overall power of the British. Phulra was one of these unique areas.

Was Phulra a Full State or a Noble Estate?

There is some discussion about whether Phulra was a full princely state or a smaller type of noble land called a jagir. A jagir was a piece of land given to a noble person as a reward, and they would collect taxes from it. Either way, Phulra was a special territory with its own local ruler.

Where Was Phulra Located?

Phulra was located in the modern-day region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is in Pakistan. It was situated to the east of another similar princely state called Amb.

When Did Phulra's Special Status End?

Phulra, along with the nearby state of Amb, stopped being a separate princely state in 1950. At that time, both areas became part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.

Phulra Today

Today, Phulra is no longer a princely state. It is a small town and a local administrative area called a union council. You can find it in Mansehra District, within the Hazara region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
