Pic Me is a fun children's television show from Ireland. It first appeared on RTÉ and later on TG4 and Nick Jr. channels across Europe. The show also aired in the United States on channels like Animania HD and Sprout. There was even a Spanish version shown on V-Me.
How Pic Me Works
Episodes of Pic Me are usually about five to ten minutes long. What makes Pic Me special is that real kids get to be in the show! A picture of a viewer is placed onto a cartoon body. This means the child's face appears on a cartoon character.
These special characters then move around the story. They can walk, run, jump, and interact with the main cartoon characters. The viewer characters do not speak. The other characters call them "Little Boy" or "Little Girl."
Two Viewers in One Episode
Since 2007, many new episodes have featured two viewers instead of just one. These episodes are often about "best friends." One main viewer holds a picture of their real-life best friend. Later, another episode shows the best friend as the main star. The picture situation is then switched around.
Meet the Pic Me Characters
The show features a group of animal friends. They learn important lessons together.
- Juno – He is a male lion with a funny, nasal voice. Juno can be a bit shy and sometimes gets scared easily. He often forgets things but loves to have fun with his friends.
- Gerty – She is a female giraffe. Gerty is very smart and enjoys cooking. However, she likes things to be very clean and tidy.
- Banjo – He is a male purple monkey.
- Umi – She is a red, female parrot. Umi is clever and likes to have fun. She can sometimes be a bit bossy with her friends. But she is always kind to the "Little Boy" or "Little Girl" characters. Umi talks a lot and is very friendly. She enjoys flying her friends up high to "look at the sky."
- Clarence – He is a male crocodile. Clarence sometimes feels a bit unsure of himself. He is proud of his swimming skills. But he can get nervous around other characters.
- Neville – He is a blue, male elephant. Neville is the smartest character in the group. He always gives good advice to everyone. When his friends ask questions, he thinks hard and finds the right answer. Neville helps teach the others about right and wrong.
The main goal of Pic Me is to help children learn. Viewers learn lessons about telling the truth and being kind. They also learn about shapes, colors, and counting.
