Picture Pages facts for kids
Picture Pages was a fun and educational American TV show from 1978 to 1980. It was made for young children, helping them learn important skills. The show was presented by Bill Cosby.
Picture Pages taught kids about basic arithmetic (math), geometry (shapes), and drawing. It did this through interactive lessons. Viewers would use a special workbook to follow along with the show.
About Picture Pages
Picture Pages was created by Julius Oleinick. It first appeared on a local children's show in Pittsburgh in 1974. Back then, special puzzle booklets were given away at supermarkets.
The show later became a national segment on the famous Captain Kangaroo show in the 1970s. Captain Kangaroo would lead the lessons using his "magic drawing board."
The Bill Cosby Era
In 1978, Bill Cosby took over the Picture Pages segments. He used a special marker named "Mortimer Ichabod Marker," or "M.I." for short. Cosby made learning fun and engaging for young viewers.
Later Years and Repeats
When the Captain Kangaroo show left CBS in 1984, Picture Pages found a new home. It became part of Nickelodeon's Pinwheel program. This continued until Pinwheel ended in 1989.
The segments were also shown as short breaks between other programs into the early 1990s. The episodes featuring Bill Cosby were repeated until 1990. The show also aired in Canada on the YTV cable network.
