Piedecuesta (Spanish pronunciation: [pjeðeˈkwesta]) is a city and municipality in Colombia, South America. It is located in the Santander Department in the northeastern part of the country. About 150,000 people live there. Piedecuesta is also part of the larger city area of Bucaramanga. This area is one of the biggest in Colombia.

Exploring Piedecuesta's Landscape

Piedecuesta is in a valley called Rio de Oro. A famous spot is Cantera's Hill. On top of this hill, there's a big statue of the Virgin Mary. People often call it "Cantera's Virgin."

Other cool places include Guatiguara's valley and the Saints' Plateau. Part of the amazing Chicamocha Canyon is also nearby. You can also visit the Ruitoque Plateau.

What Piedecuesta Produces

Piedecuesta is an important area for farming. Farmers here grow many different products.

Most people in Piedecuesta are Catholic. During Holy Week, they visit religious places. These include the Virgin of the Cantera's Hill and the Mountain of Hermits. There is also a procession of Nazarene through the main streets.

Liberty Park is in the middle of town. Several important buildings surround it.

  • San Francisco Javier Church: This church was built using red stone from Cantera's Hill.
  • Perpetuo Socorro Church: This was the very first church in Piedecuesta.
