The Story of Pierre's Ice Cream
How It All Began
Pierre's Ice Cream Company first opened its doors in 1932. The very first store was on East 82nd Street in Cleveland. Every day, fresh ice cream was made right in the back of the shop. You could buy it in a cone, a cup, or even packed by hand to take home. The founder, Alexander Pierre Basset, loved making delicious treats.
Growing Bigger
As Pierre's Ice Cream became more popular, the company needed more space. They moved to a new location on St. Clair Avenue. Later, in 1960, they moved again to East 60th Street. At this new spot, they shared a factory with another company called Royal Ice Cream.
In 1960, Royal Ice Cream Company bought Pierre's. Royal Ice Cream then started to focus on the Pierre's brand. They really liked Pierre's special ice cream recipes. A few years later, in 1967, the combined Pierre's/Royal company bought another ice cream maker, Harwill Ice Cream Company.
New Homes and Factories
In April 1995, Pierre's moved its main office to East 65th Street. This was a big step for the company. They kept growing and planning for the future.
In 2010, Pierre's announced plans for a brand-new, modern ice cream factory. This factory would be very large, covering 35,000 square feet. The new factory opened in 2011, replacing their older one. Building it cost $9.2 million. The city of Cleveland even helped with $6.2 million in loans. This new factory helped Pierre's make even more ice cream!
In 2022, Pierre's Ice Cream Company joined another company. It was bought by Ohio Processors Inc.
Yummy Products
Pierre's Ice Cream makes a lot of different treats. They have 51 flavors of ice cream! In total, they make 235 different products. This includes not just ice cream, but also frozen yogurt and sorbet.
You can find Pierre's ice cream in many places. They sell it in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Kentucky. You can also find it in Michigan, New York, Georgia, and Texas. Beyond the United States, Pierre's ice cream is sold in places like Aruba, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico.
Pierre's also makes ice cream for other companies. They create "private label" lines, which means they make ice cream that other brands sell under their own names.
