Pierre Brasseur (born Pierre-Albert Espinasse on December 22, 1905) was a famous French actor. He was known for playing many different and exciting characters in movies and on stage. He passed away on August 16, 1972.

About Pierre Brasseur

Pierre Brasseur came from a family of actors. His father, Georges Espinasse, and his mother, Germaine Brasseur, were both actors. His grandfather, Jules Brasseur, was also an actor. The family often used the name Brasseur for their acting careers. Pierre's son, Claude, and his grandson, Alexandre, also became actors. They continued this family tradition.

Pierre Brasseur was famous for playing big, memorable characters. One of his most well-known roles was as the actor Frédérick Lemaître. He played this character in the movie Les Enfants du Paradis (which means Children of Paradise). This film came out in 1945.

He also played a doctor named Docteur Génessier in the horror film Les Yeux sans visage. This movie was released in 1960. He acted alongside Alida Valli in that film. In 1927, he performed as the Narrator in a special musical play. It was called Oedipus Rex by Igor Stravinsky.

Awards and Recognition

Pierre Brasseur received important awards for his work. In 1966, he was made a Chevalier (Knight) of the Légion d'honneur. This is one of France's highest awards. The next year, in 1967, he became a Commandeur (Commander) of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. This award recognizes people who have contributed a lot to arts and literature.
