Pierre-Damien Habumuremyi was born on February 20, 1961. He is a politician from Rwanda. He was the Prime Minister of Rwanda from 2011 to 2014. Before that, he was the Minister of Education.

Early Life and Education
Pierre-Damien Habumuremyi was born in 1961 in Ruhondo, Musanze District, Rwanda. He studied in several countries. These included the Democratic Republic of Congo, France, and Burkina Faso.
He first earned a degree in sociology. Later, he completed more studies at the University of Lubumbashi in 1993. He then got a master's degree in political science from the Panthéon-Assas University in 2003. In 2011, he finished his Ph.D. in political science at the University of Ouagadougou.
Career Highlights
Pierre Habumuremyi began his career as a teacher. He was an assistant professor at the National University of Rwanda from 1993 to 1999. He also taught at other universities in Kigali during that time.
During these years, he also worked on different projects. He was a project coordinator for a German program from 1995 to 1997. He also managed projects for the Catholic Relief Services from 1997 to 2000.
Working with Elections
From 2000 to 2003, he helped lead Rwanda's National Electoral Commission. This group helps organize elections in the country. He then became the Executive Secretary of the commission until 2008.
In 2008, Habumuremyi was chosen to represent Rwanda. He became one of nine members in the East African Legislative Assembly. This group works on laws for countries in East Africa.
Becoming a Minister
In May 2011, Pierre-Damien Habumuremyi joined the Rwandan government. He was made the Minister of Education. In this role, he was in charge of schools and learning across the country.
Prime Minister of Rwanda
On October 6, 2011, he was appointed as the Prime Minister of Rwanda. This was a big surprise to many people. He served as Prime Minister until July 23, 2014. After him, Anastase Murekezi took over the role.
He has also written a book. It is called The Political integration in Rwanda after the 1994 genocide: Utopia or Reality. It was published in 2008.
