Pierre-Damien Habumuremyi, born on February 20, 1961, is a politician from Rwanda. He held an important role as the Prime Minister of Rwanda from October 7, 2011, to July 24, 2014. Before becoming Prime Minister, he served as the Minister of Education for a few months in 2011.

Early Life and Education
Pierre-Damien Habumuremyi was born in 1961 in a place called Ruhondo, located in the Musanze District of Rwanda. He traveled to different countries for his studies. These countries included the Democratic Republic of Congo, France, and Burkina Faso.
He first earned a degree in sociology. Later, he continued his studies at the University of Lubumbashi in 1993. In 2003, he received a master's degree in political science from the Panthéon-Assas University. He completed his highest degree, a Ph.D. in political science, in 2011 at the University of Ouagadougou.
His Career Journey
Pierre Habumuremyi began his career in education. From 1993 to 1999, he was an assistant professor at the National University of Rwanda. During this time, he also taught at other universities in Kigali.
He also worked on various projects. From 1995 to 1997, he was a project coordinator for a German assistance program. Then, from 1997 to 2000, he was a senior project manager for the Catholic Relief Services.
Working with Elections
From 2000 to 2003, he helped manage elections in Rwanda. He was the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Electoral Commission. After that, he became the Executive Secretary, a top role, until 2008.
In May 2008, he was chosen to represent Rwanda in the East African Legislative Assembly. This assembly helps make laws for countries in East Africa. Charles Munyaneza took over his role at the National Electoral Commission in July 2008.
Becoming a Minister and Prime Minister
In May 2011, Pierre-Damien Habumuremyi was appointed as Rwanda's Minister of Education. This was a significant step in his political career.
Just a few months later, on October 6, 2011, he was appointed as the Prime Minister. This appointment was a bit of a surprise to many. He served as Prime Minister until July 23, 2014, when Anastase Murekezi took over the position.
