Pilar Pedraza's Writing
Her Exciting Stories
Pilar Pedraza writes many stories, often in the horror genre. Her first novel, Las joyas de la serpiente (1984), explores dark themes.
In her book La perra de Alejandría (2003), she tells a unique version of the story of Hypatia. Hypatia was a famous female philosopher from ancient times. In Pedraza's book, Hypatia is caught between two different groups: followers of the god Dionysus and followers of Christ.
Her Thoughtful Essays
Pilar Pedraza also writes essays, which are non-fiction works that explore ideas. Her research looks at three main areas. She studies art and society during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. She also writes about cinema and how women have been viewed throughout history.
Some of her essays, like La bella, enigma y pesadilla (1991) and Máquinas de amar. Secretos del Cuerpo Artificial (1998), explore ideas about beauty and artificial bodies. In Venus barbuda y el eslabón perdido (2009), she writes about the idea of a "bearded woman." She looks at how such figures challenge ideas about gender and connect humans with animals.
