Pilas is a small area called a district in Costa Rica. It is located in the Puntarenas province. Pilas is also part of the Buenos Aires canton. A canton is like a county or a larger region.
History of Pilas
Pilas became its own district on January 20, 1968. This change happened because of a special rule. Before this date, Pilas was part of the Buenos Aires district.
Geography of Pilas
Pilas covers an area of about 114.81 square kilometers. This is roughly the size of a square with sides about 10.7 kilometers long. The district is located about 250 meters above sea level. This means it is a bit higher up than areas closer to the coast.
