Willem Bernard "Pim" Jacobs was a famous Dutch jazz pianist, composer, and television presenter. He was born on October 29, 1934, and passed away on July 3, 1996. Pim Jacobs was known for his amazing piano skills and for hosting music shows on TV. He played jazz music with many talented artists, including his wife, Rita Reys.
His Early Years
Pim Jacobs was born in Hilversum, Netherlands. His family loved art and music. He began playing the piano when he was just six years old. His younger brother, Ruud, also became a jazz musician, playing the bass.
Music Career and TV Work
In 1954, Pim and Ruud formed a jazz group with drummer Wessel Ilcken. Later, guitarist Wim Overgaauw and Wessel's wife, Rita Reys, joined the band. They recorded music with famous musicians like Herbie Mann.
After Wessel Ilcken passed away in 1957, Pim Jacobs and Rita Reys continued to perform together. They often played as a duo or a trio with Wim Overgaauw. Pim and Rita got married in 1960. They traveled a lot, playing at jazz festivals in Europe and even in New Orleans. They were known for their unique jazz versions of popular songs. Pim also wrote music for movies.
Besides playing music, Pim Jacobs also worked in television and radio starting in 1964. He hosted a music show called Music for All. In the 1970s and 1980s, he presented concerts in schools, helping to share music with young people.
Pim Jacobs passed away in Tienhoven in 1996. A theater in Maarssen was named the Pim Jacobs Theatre in his honor. His nephew, Bobby Jacobs, later became a member of the rock band Focus.
