History of Pimienta
How Pimienta Started
The municipality of Pimienta was officially created on January 10, 1927. It was given its name because there were many pepper trees growing in the area.
Early Growth and Changes
Back in 1879, Pimienta was just a small group of buildings. By 1887, it had grown into a small village. At that time, it was part of the Villanueva municipality. Later, in 1895, Pimienta became part of the Potrerillos municipality.
A big change happened in 1924. A new railway bridge opened, connecting Pimienta to Potrerillos. This made Pimienta a very important place for trade and business. Because of this growth, companies that grew bananas even set up offices there to pay their workers.
Moving the Town
On June 7, 1934, a huge flood from the Ulúa River caused a lot of damage. A large part of the town of Pimienta was destroyed. Because of this, the people decided to move the town to a new, safer location. In 1936, the population moved to this new spot. This new place became known as Nueva Pimienta, which means "New Pimienta." It is now the main town of the municipality.
