Pindar Cave
Pindar Cave, 5th September 2020

Pindar Cave is a huge rock formation. It looks like a giant curved wall of sandstone hanging over. You can find it in Brisbane Water National Park in New South Wales, Australia. This park is west of Woy Woy, which is north of Sydney.

Even though it's called a cave, it's actually a big overhang. It's so large that about sixty hikers can camp under its shelter. It's a great spot to stay dry if it rains!

Where is Pindar Cave?

Pindar Cave sits on a flat area of land called a plateau. This area is like a peninsula, surrounded by water on three sides. It has open bushland and dry forests.

The southern part of this land ends at the Hawkesbury River. Pindar Cave is to the northwest of the railway bridge that crosses the Hawkesbury River, near Brooklyn.

On one side of this land is Mullet Creek. On the other side is Mooney Mooney Creek. Both of these creeks are large "drowned valleys." They formed a long time ago, after the last ice ages, when the ocean levels rose a lot.

How to Get to Pindar Cave

By Train

If you are coming from Sydney, the easiest way to reach Pindar Cave is by train. You can take the Central Coast & Newcastle Line Intercity train. This train travels from Central Station in Sydney all the way to Newcastle.

You should get off at Wondabyne station. Wondabyne is northeast of Pindar Cave. There are no roads at Wondabyne because the cliffs around it are too steep. From Wondabyne, you would need to hike to reach the cave.
