Pine Lake Park is a wonderful park located in the southwest part of San Francisco, California. It's a peaceful place that includes the beautiful Pine Lake. This park is a great spot for enjoying nature and spending time outdoors.

Park History

The story of Pine Lake Park began with the Greene family. They moved to San Francisco from Maine in 1847. The family bought a very large piece of land. This land included what we now know as Stern Grove and Pine Lake.

In 1887, a legal issue caused the family to give up most of their property. They were allowed to keep only a smaller part. This remaining land is what makes up Pine Lake Park today. It also includes the nearby Sigmund Stern Recreation Grove. The Greene family planted many eucalyptus trees around the lake. These trees still stand there today.

The City of San Francisco bought the land and the lake. This happened a few years after the Sigmund Stern Recreation Grove opened in 1932.

Where is Pine Lake Park?

Pine Lake Park is found in the southwest corner of San Francisco. The park covers about 30 acres of land. It is home to Pine Lake and is right next to Sigmund Stern Recreation Grove.

Amazing Wildlife

Pine Lake Park is an important stop for many birds. These birds are called migratory birds. They travel along a special path known as the Pacific Flyway. Birds use the park's area to find food, rest, or even live there. It's a great place to see different kinds of birds!

Fun Things to Do

There is a walking path that goes all the way around Pine Lake. This path connects to a bigger network of trails. You can follow these trails through Stern Grove and even reach a part of the Bay Area Ridge Trail.

The park also has a special area for dogs to play. It's a fun spot for pets and their owners.

Park Management
