Pineridge is a small place in Fresno County, California. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.
Pineridge is located about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Shaver Lake Heights. It sits high up in the mountains, at an elevation of 4,842 feet (1,476 meters). About 300 people live in this quiet community.
Pineridge History
Pineridge has had a few different names over the years!
- The first name for the area was Kenyon.
- A post office opened here in 1890 under the name Kenyon.
- The name Kenyon was chosen to honor Silas W. Kenyon, who was the very first postmaster.
In 1892, the name of the post office changed to Pine Ridge. Just three years later, in 1895, it changed again to Pineridge, which is the name it still uses today. The post office eventually closed in 1944.
Life in Pineridge
Even though Pineridge is a small community, it has some important places for the people who live there.
- Cressmans General Store: This is a local store where people can buy many different things. It was damaged in the 2020 Creek Fire, but it has been rebuilt and is open again!
- Pine Ridge Elementary School: This school helps educate the children in the area.
- Volunteer Fire Department: Pineridge has its own group of volunteer firefighters. They help keep the community safe from fires and other emergencies.
