Pinky Dinky Doo is a fun animated TV show for kids. It was created by Jim Jinkins. The show was made by Jim Jinkins' company, Cartoon Pizza, and Sesame Workshop. They also worked with Discovery Kids Latin America and CBC Canada for the first season. For the second season, Abrams Gentile Entertainment and Keyframe Digital Productions joined in.

The main character is an imaginative pink-haired girl named Pinky Dinky Doo. In each episode, she makes up her own exciting stories. Jim Jinkins first created Pinky as a bedtime story for his daughter. In 2002, he turned the idea into a two-part web series. Then, in 2003, Random House released a series of six children's books about Pinky. The TV show first aired on April 5, 2005, in Latin America. It came to English-speaking audiences on CBC Canada in December 2005.

The show was also shown again on HBO Kids from 2016 to 2021. It was even available on the HBO Max streaming service when it first launched in 2020.

Storytelling Adventures with Pinky

Pinky Dinky Doo lives in a place called Great Big City. She lives with her parents, her little brother Tyler, and their pet, Mr. Guinea Pig. When Tyler has a problem, Pinky always has an idea. She asks, "Pinky, are you going to make up a story?" Pinky replies, "Yeserooni positooni!" Then, she dances to a special cardboard box called the Story Box.

Using chalk and her amazing imagination, Pinky tells a story to help solve Tyler's problem. In the second season, if the Story Box isn't around, Pinky uses her Story Pad. This is a notebook where she draws pictures for her new stories.

Thinking Big to Solve Problems

During her made-up stories, Pinky has a special moment where she must "Think Big." When she does this, her head swells up! This helps her come up with a super silly or clever solution to the problem. She even sings a song: "If I have a problem, don't know which way to go, I think and think and think and think, and suddenly I know."

Sometimes, other characters or situations change how "Think Big" happens:

  • In the episode Big Blob of Talk, Pinky doesn't think big, she listens big instead.
  • In Back to School Is Cool, only Pinky's hair swells up because she's having a bad hair day.
  • In some episodes like Tyler to the Rescue or Tyler's Big Idea, Tyler is the one who thinks big.
  • In Shrinky Pinky, even Mr. Guinea Pig gets a chance to think big!

Learning with Pinky Dinky Doo

Pinky Dinky Doo was created to help young viewers learn new words. In every episode, there's a "Great Big Fancy Word." Before someone says this word, Mr. Guinea Pig often plays a trumpet or another instrument! Then the character says the special word.

The show also helps kids learn how to solve problems. It teaches them the basics of telling a story, like understanding characters, what they say, the plot, and the order of events. After Pinky finishes her story and solves the problem, kids can play an interactive game. This game is on a toy called the Cheese Sandwich. It helps them remember details about the story. At the end of each episode, Pinky says, "I love to make up stories. I'll bet you can make up a story too." This encourages kids to use their own imaginations.

The show was created by Jim Jinkins, who used to make up Pinky's adventures as bedtime stories for his own children. The main producers were Jim Jinkins and David Campbell. The show was made by Sesame Workshop, Cartoon Pizza, Keyframe Digital, and Abrams Gentile Entertainment. The goal of the show is to encourage reading and creative storytelling.
