Discovery Kids, also known as DK, is a popular TV channel for kids in Latin America. It's owned by a company called Discovery, Inc.. The channel's main office is in Miami, Florida.
Discovery Kids first started as a special block of shows on the Latin American version of Discovery Channel. It became its own channel on November 1, 1996.
The channel has different versions, called "feeds," for various regions. This means that what you watch might be slightly different depending on where you live. These feeds include versions for Pan-regional, Colombia, Southern, Mexico, and Brazil. Each of these also has a high-definition (HD) version. Discovery Kids is also available in many Caribbean countries.
Contents
What Shows Can You Watch?
Discovery Kids shows many fun and educational programs. These shows are often aimed at younger children, but kids aged 12-15 might still enjoy some of them. The channel features cartoons, live-action series, and shows that teach about science, nature, and the world.
Different Versions of the Channel
Discovery Kids broadcasts five main versions, or "feeds," of its channel. Each feed has its own HD version and sometimes a different schedule or set of shows. This helps make sure the content is right for each region.
Pan-regional Feed
This version broadcasts to most countries in Latin America, including the Caribbean. It uses time zones from Colombia (UTC-5) and Argentina (UTC-3).
Mexico Feed
This feed is just for Mexico. It has a different schedule and sometimes different TV series compared to other feeds. It uses the Mexico City time zone (UTC-6/-5 DST).
Colombia Feed
This version is only for Colombia. It has its own unique schedule. It uses the Bogotá time zone (UTC-5).
Southern Feed
This feed broadcasts to Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It also has a different schedule. It uses the Buenos Aires time zone (UTC-3).
Chilean Subfeed
Within the Southern feed, there's a special version for Chile. It includes local advertisements. During winter, it delays programming by one hour to match Chile's time zone (UTC-4/UTC-3 DST).
Brazil Feed
This feed is only for Brazil. It has a different schedule and TV series, and it broadcasts in Portuguese. It uses the Brasilia time zone (UTC-3/-2 DST).
Live Events and Tours
Discovery Kids has organized special live events for its viewers. These events often feature Doki, the channel's mascot, and other characters from their popular shows.
La Ronda de Discovery Kids
La Ronda de Discovery Kids (The Discovery Kids Tour) was a series of live events where Doki and other characters visited different cities. They would put on performances for kids and families. The last event with this name was in 2008.
Other Events
Even after 2008, the channel still organizes similar events in Latin American cities.
- In 2009, there was a project called "Exploration" that focused on the environment.
- In 2010, an event called En sus marcas, listos, ya (On your marks, get set, go!) was held only in Mexico.
- In 2012, they performed Expreso Discovery Kids (Discovery Kids Express) in Mexico City and Venezuela.
