The Pinnacles Gallery is a cool art space in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. You can find it inside the Riverway Arts Centre. Its main goal is to offer fun, modern, and easy-to-access art programs for everyone.
Artists can show their work here, either by themselves or as part of a group exhibition. The gallery also holds special talks and workshops for different age groups. They even have educational programs and guided tours for schools and community groups. You can see modern art from local, national, and even international artists at Pinnacles Gallery.
Pinnacles Gallery also manages Your Space. This is another exhibition area for artists and community groups. It's located in the foyer of the CityLibraries Townsville branch in Thuringowa. Exhibitions here usually last about four weeks. They often show artworks that are important to the local community, history, or literature.

Discover the Gallery's Story
Pinnacles Gallery first opened its doors on 17 March 1996. It was originally next to the Thuringowa Library. The mayor of Thuringowa City, Les Tyrell, officially opened it. At the time, a city official said the gallery would be for everyone. It would show "travelling exhibitions and local art," not just art for a select few.
In its first year, the gallery welcomed over 35,000 visitors. They hosted 19 exhibitions, and more than half of them featured local artists or community groups.
In 2006, the gallery moved to its current home. This new spot is inside the Riverway Arts Centre. It's the only building in Townsville built just for an art gallery! This move brought many new chances for the gallery. The new space has great tools for showing multimedia art.
Around 2007-2008, the cities of Thuringowa and Townsville joined together. There was a plan to close the gallery, but the community worked hard to keep it open. And it stayed open!
Exciting Annual Art Shows
Creative Generations Art Awards
The Creative Generations Excellence Awards in Visual Art and Design is a special art show. Pinnacles Gallery hosts it every year. It features amazing artworks from high school students in the North Queensland Education District. These students are studying art as part of their senior school courses. The exhibition also includes workshops and fun activities during school holidays.
ArtNow for All Students
ArtNow was created to run at the same time as Creative Generations. It gives students who aren't taking the advanced art courses a chance to show their work. This exhibition is open every year to senior students studying any art-related subject.
Townsville Artist Markets
Pinnacles Gallery also hosts the Townsville Artist Markets. These markets are held at Riverway every two to three months. They usually run on a Saturday afternoon. You can find stalls from local artists and craftspeople. There's also entertainment like workshops, local musicians, and performances.
The markets first started in the foyer of the Riverway Arts Centre. They offer a great way to support local talent and enjoy art in a fun, lively setting.
