Catholic Schools

In Queensland, Catholic primary schools are often connected to a local church parish. In the past, religious groups started most of these schools. Now, most teachers and leaders are not part of religious orders. Schools in the Mackay Region are managed by the Catholic Education Office in the Diocese of Rockhampton. All other Catholic schools in this region are managed by the Catholic Education Office in the Diocese of Townsville. These offices help coordinate how Catholic schools are run, what they teach, and their rules. Catholic students from the local area usually get first choice for enrolment, but non-Catholic students can join if there's space.
