Beaconsfield is located about 8 kilometers (5 miles) north of the main city center of Mackay.
A Look at Beaconsfield's History
Beaconsfield was named after a sugar plantation that used to be here. This plantation had a sugar crushing mill from around 1882 to 1893.
Sports and Schools Start Up
The Mackay Wanderers Soccer Club was started in Beaconsfield in 1923.
In 1928, the Mackay Golf Club opened a 9-hole golf course here. They built a new clubhouse in 1967. The club later added more holes and built dams for watering the course. In 1985, women were allowed to become full members of the club.
Carlisle Adventist Christian College opened its doors in 1950.
Kewarra State Special School opened on February 21, 1987. It was later renamed Mackay District Special School in 2002.
Whitsunday Anglican School opened on January 27, 1988.
Beaconsfield State School began teaching students on January 1, 1999.
