South Townsville is a coastal suburb in Queensland, Australia. It is part of the city of Townsville. In 2021, about 2,424 people lived there.

What is South Townsville like?
South Townsville is located on the northern part of Ross Island. The Coral Sea is to its north. Ross Creek is to the west. The Ross River is to the east. Another suburb, Railway Estate, is on the southern part of the island.
Important roads like North Townsville Road (also called Boundary Street) and North Ward Road (Dean Street) go through the area. Townsville Port Road also enters from the south-east.
This suburb is mostly for homes. But it's also a key place for businesses and industries in Townsville. It connects to the main city area, known as the Townsville CBD. South Townsville offers places to stay and fun nightlife spots. Palmer Street is famous for its restaurants and hotels. The Port of Townsville is here. Also, the Queensland Country Bank Stadium is located where old train yards used to be.
A Look at History
Ross Island State School first opened its doors on 26 February 1884. Later, in 1936, its name changed to Townsville South State School.
