Exploring Eton's Landscape

Eton is located in a mostly flat area, about 30 meters above sea level. This northern part of the town is mainly used for growing sugarcane. As you move south, the land becomes hilly. Here, farmers mostly raise cattle.

The very south of Eton is mountainous, with peaks like Mount Bridgman reaching 650 meters high. Much of this land is natural bushland, including parts of Ben Mohr State Forest and Spencer Gap State Forest.

Waste Management in Eton

In the far south of Eton, you'll find the Hogan's Pocket Landfill. This is a special site where waste is safely disposed of. It was built in 2006 by the Mackay Regional Council. The landfill produces gas, which is currently burned off. However, in the future, this gas might be used to create electricity!

Roads and Transport

The main road, the Peak Downs Highway, runs through Eton from south to north-east. Another important road, State Route 5, also passes through the area. You might also see a special railway line called a cane tramway. This tramway helps transport the harvested sugarcane to local sugar mills.
