Halifax is a small town and a coastal area in Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Shire of Hinchinbrook. In 2021, about 477 people lived in Halifax.

Where is Halifax?
Halifax is located on the Herbert River. It is about 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) northeast of a larger town called Ingham.
A Look at Halifax's History
Halifax started to grow in 1880. A man named August Anderssen bought land here. This land was then used to create sugar plantations.
The first school in the area opened on September 24, 1883. It was first called Herbert River Provisional School. In 1885, its name changed to Halifax Provisional School. It became Halifax State School in 1891, meaning it was fully supported by the government.
The Halifax Post Office opened its doors on August 23, 1886. This made it easier for people to send and receive mail.
St Peter's Catholic School, another school, opened in 1927.
A church for the Methodist faith opened in Halifax in 1964. Later, in 1977, the Methodist Church joined with other churches to form the Uniting Church in Australia. So, it became the Halifax Uniting Church.
In March 2018, Halifax experienced very heavy rain. This caused some homes in the town to be flooded.

The number of people living in Halifax has slowly grown over the years.

Things to Do and See
Halifax has several places for the community to use:
- The town has a town hall, which is a place for community events.
- Regular community markets are held, where people can buy local goods.
- The Hinchinbrook Shire Council runs a library service in Halifax. The library is on Macrossan Street and is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
- You can visit the Herbert River Museum, also on Macrossan Street. It is open from 9 AM to 12 PM, Tuesday to Saturday.
- The Halifax branch of the Queensland Country Women's Association (CWA) meets at their hall on 53 Macrossan Street. The CWA helps women in rural areas.
- The Halifax Uniting Church is located at 12 Anderssen Street. It is part of a larger group of churches in North Queensland.
Schools in Halifax
Halifax has two primary schools for younger students:
- Halifax State School is a government school for boys and girls. It teaches students from Prep (the first year of school) up to Year 6. It is located at 17 Victoria Terrace. In 2017, the school had 22 students.
- St Peter's Catholic School is a Catholic primary school for boys and girls. It also teaches students from Prep to Year 6. You can find it at 15-17 Anderssen Street. In 2017, this school had 37 students.
There is no high school in Halifax. Students who are ready for secondary school usually go to Ingham State High School. This school is in Ingham, which is southwest of Halifax.
