Seaforth is a lovely coastal town in Queensland, Australia. It's part of the Mackay Region. In 2021, about 800 people lived there. It's known for its beautiful beaches and fishing spots.

Exploring Seaforth's Location

Seaforth is a small town perfect for holidays and fishing. It is about 35 kilometers (22 miles) north-northwest of Mackay.

Coastal Features and Mountains

Finlaysons Point is a headland at the very top of Seaforth. The coastline near this point and along the north-east side has a sandy beach. The town itself is right next to this beach. Most homes are built in the town or along this pretty coast.

The southern part of Seaforth has mountains. They can reach up to 250 meters (820 feet) above sea level. The northern part is flatter and lower. It is usually 10 to 20 meters (33 to 66 feet) above sea level. This flatter land is used for growing crops, especially sugarcane. Other areas are used for grazing animals.

Seaforth has two mountains:

  • Mount Springcliffe, which is 116 meters (381 feet) tall.
  • Mount Sweetland, which is 171 meters (561 feet) tall.

There are also two mountain passes:

  • Macartneys Gap
  • Niddoes Gap

Seaforth's Past: A Look at History

In 1899, the Queensland Government bought land from H.M. Finlayson. He was an early settler in the area. They wanted to create a new settlement. It was first called Springcliff. However, local people always called it Seaforth. So, in 1966, it was officially renamed Seaforth. Finlayson Point is named after H.M. Finlayson.

Schools and Churches Over Time

The first Seaforth Provisional School opened in 1887 but closed a few years later. A second Seaforth Provisional School started in 1935. In 1948, it became Seaforth State School.

An old school building was moved and became the Seaforth Presbyterian Church in 1949. This church served the community until a new one was built in 1961. Later, it became the Seaforth Uniting Church. There is also a former church building at 53 Palm Avenue.

There isn't a high school in Seaforth. Older students usually go to Calen District State College in Calen or Mackay North State High School in North Mackay.

The Mackay Regional Council offers a mobile library service. It visits Seaforth every two weeks near the school and at Seaforth Reserve Road. This means you can borrow books right in your town!
